ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,286,452, issued on April 29, was assigned to TEXAS TECH UNIVERSITY SYSTEM (Lubbock, Texas) and Utah State University (Logan, Utah).

"Amphiphilic aminoglycoside connexin hemichannel inhibitors" was invented by Guillermo A. Altenberg (Lubbock, Texas) and Cheng-Wei Tom Chang (Logan, Utah).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present invention includes novel molecules and methods of using an amphiphilic kanamycin molecule having substitutions at the O-4", O-6", or O-4" and O-6" positions having reduced antimicrobial activity for targeting Connexin Hemichannels."
