ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,301,853, issued on May 13, was assigned to TENCENT AMERICA LLC (Palo Alto, Calif.).

"Indication of max sublayer numbers in multilayered video stream" was invented by Byeongdoo Choi (Palo Alto, Calif.), Shan Liu (San Jose, Calif.) and Stephan Wenger (Hillsborough, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method and device identify a maximum number of temporal sublayers that is allowed in a coded video sequence referring to a parameter set. A coded video sequence is decoded based on the identified maximum number of temporal sublayers that is allowed in the coded video sequence referring to the parameter set."
