ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,223,810, issued on Feb. 11, was assigned to Symbol Technologies LLC (Holtsville, N.Y.).
"Bioptical barcode reader" was invented by Edward Barkan (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Mark Drzymala (Saint James, N.Y.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A workstation captures images of illuminated symbols with a solid-state imager. In an embodiment, the workstation includes a removable camera module in the workstation away from the imager. The camera module captures a secondary image through a window. The captured image of the illuminated symbol and the captured secondary image are independently processed."
