ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,315,916, issued on May 27, was assigned to SUMITOMO METAL MINING Co. LTD. (Tokyo).

"Positive electrode active material for lithium ion secondary battery and lithium ion secondary battery" was invented by Tetsutaro Hayashi (Niihama, Japan), Willy Shun Kai Bong (Niihama, Japan), Shinsuke Suganuma (Niihama, Japan) and Toshihiro Kato (Tokyo).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A positive electrode active material includes lithium transition metal-containing composite oxide particles containing an additive element M1 and includes a coating layer formed of a metal composite oxide of Li and a metal element M2 on a part of a surface of the particles. ...
