ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,428,804, issued on Sept. 30, was assigned to SUMITOMO CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY Co. LTD. (Tokyo).

"Shovel that performs control to avoid contact with surrounding object" was invented by Takashi Nishi (Chiba, Japan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A shovel includes a lower traveling body, an upper turning body turnably mounted on the lower traveling body, a surroundings monitoring device attached to the upper turning body, and a controller configured to identify the state of an object based on the output of the surroundings monitoring device."
