ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 25 -- United States Patent no. 12,342,438, issued on June 24, was assigned to Stryker Corp. (Portage, Mich.).

"Systems and methods for controlling a medical light via a software configurable handle assembly" was invented by Sudhanshu Mehta (Gurdaspur, India), Robert L. York (Lantana, Texas), Amber Hildebrand (North Richland Hills, Texas), Paul Nguyen (Flower Mound, Texas) and William Lowell Jacques II (Mount Pleasant, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for controlling a medical light by a handle assembly removably mounted to the medical light includes storing configuration data at a controller of the handle assembly that defines a mapping of handle assembly use...
