ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 5 -- United States Patent no. 12,213,926, issued on Feb. 4, was assigned to Stryker Corp. (Portage, Mich.).

"Patient/invalid handling support" was invented by Patrick Lafleche (Kalamazoo, Mich.), Jean-Francois Girard (Trois-Rivieres, Canada) and Sylvain LaCasse (Saint-Romuald, Canada).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A patient support for supporting a patient includes an inflatable mattress defining a support surface and a pneumatic system for inflating the inflatable mattress. The pneumatic system includes a pressurized reservoir for holding pressurized air and selectively releases pressurized air from the reservoir to the mattress."
