ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,534,799, issued on Jan. 27, was assigned to SPTS Technologies Ltd. (Newport, Great Britain).
"Multilayer hydrophobic film" was invented by Michael Grimes (San Jose, Calif.) and Yuyuan Lin (San Jose, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An inert coating is applied to less than an entirety of a surface of a substrate to form exposed regions on the substrate between the inert coating. Precursors are introduced around the substrate thereby forming a polymer coating directly on the exposed regions of the substrate. The polymer coating can be adsorbed on the exposed regions of the substrate."
