ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 21 -- United States Patent no. 12,442,723, issued on Oct. 14, was assigned to Southern Methodist University (Dallas).

"Data fusion technique for predicting soil classification" was invented by Brett Story (Rockwall, Texas), Jase Sitton (Dallas) and Adam De Jong (Swanzey, N.J.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Provided herein is a method for determining a soil classification comprising: obtaining a soil sample; conducting two or more of the following tests in the field, wherein the tests are selected from wash test, a feel test, a test tube particle graduation, or a jar test, to obtain raw data for each test; and calculating the soil classification from the raw data obtained...
