ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 4 -- United States Patent no. 12,323,598, issued on June 3, was assigned to Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. (Tokyo).

"Metering bits in video encoder to achieve targeted data rate and video quality level" was invented by Kannan Vairavan (San Mateo, Calif.) and Milan Mehta (San Mateo, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "For stability of a bit rate for groups of pictures (GOPs), a rate buffer bit controller feedback loop and a proportional integral derivative (PID) bit controller feedback loop may be used to maintain at least one video buffer."

The patent was filed on Oct. 18, 2022, under Application No. 18/047,621.
