ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,417,588, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to Snap Inc. (Santa Monica, Calif.).

"Fast AR device pairing using depth predictions" was invented by Georgios Evangelidis (Vienna), Branislav Micusik (St.Andrae-Woerdern, Austria), Jakob Zillner (Absdorf, Austria) and Nathan Jacob Litke (Redondo Beach, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method for aligning coordinate systems from separate augmented reality (AR) devices is described. In one aspect, the method includes generating predicted depths of a first point cloud by applying a pre-trained model to a first single image generated by a first monocular camera of a first augmented reality (...
