ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,296,450, issued on May 13, was assigned to Snap-on Inc. (Kenosha, Wis.).

"Adjustable pliers" was invented by Anup A. Gupte (Buffalo Grove, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Pliers with receiving surfaces formed in the handles of the pliers so as to increase the contact surface area between the pliers and the work piece. The pliers grip the work piece at the jaws of the pliers and at the receiving surfaces to increase the contact area between the tool and the work piece as compared to conventional adjustable pliers."

The patent was filed on Sept. 3, 2019, under Application No. 16/558,476.
