ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,458,339, issued on Nov. 4, was assigned to Smith & Nephew Inc. (Memphis, Tenn.), Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics AG (Zug, Switzerland) and Smith & Nephew Asia Pacific Pte. Ltd. (Singapore).
"Tissue repair systems and methods of assembly" was invented by Mark E. Housman (North Attleboro, Mass.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Tissue repair systems include suture anchors comprising a distal transfer eyelet. The use of transfer eyelet in various anchor configurations enables diameter reduction of the anchor, as well as enlargement of the driver cannulation. This in turn increases the amount and size of suture loadable into the system."
