ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,245,673, issued on March 11, was assigned to Seed Health Inc. (Venice, Calif.).

"Insect repellent pet collar" was invented by Joseph E. Kovarik (Englewood, Colo.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An insect repellent collar for a pet includes an encapsulated insect repellent adjacent to an absorbent material, which is itself adjacent to a skin/fur barrier/odor impervious material, and where at least about 0.5 ml of insect repellent is encapsulated in a frangible enclosure that when fractured, releases a fresh supply of repellent onto the absorbent material for the passive evaporation of the repellent."
