ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,416,841, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to SAINT-GOBAIN GLASS FRANCE (Courbevoie, France) and CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE (Paris).

"Liquid-crystal optical system" was invented by Frederic Mondiot (Aubervilliers, France) and Herve Montigaud (Aubervilliers, France).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An optical system composed of a first electrically controllable device which has variable scattering and color by first liquid crystals stabilized in a polymeric network and first dichroic dyes and a second electrically controllable device having variable polarization by second liquid crystals and second dichroic dyes."
