ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,297,746, issued on May 13, was assigned to RTX Corp. (Farmington, Conn.).
"Erosion compensated vane geometry" was invented by Lawrence A. Binek (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Yoel Bugin (Port St Lucie, Fla.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A turbine vane for use in a gas turbine engine includes an airfoil section having a concave sidewall and a convex sidewall. Both the concave sidewall and convex sidewall extend spanwise between a platform and a radially outward airfoil tip and chordwise between a leading edge and a trailing edge. The concave sidewall includes a convex ablative region."
