ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,331,648, issued on June 17, was assigned to RTX Corp. (Farmington, Conn.).

"Detecting engine exhaust debris using saturation current" was invented by Jeremiah C. Lee (Coventry, Conn.), Daniel McMenamin (Ellington, Conn.) and Alek Gavrilovski (Atlanta).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method is provided for an engine. During this method, a saturation current of a gas flow is measured. The gas flow includes combustion products generated by the engine. The saturation current is monitored to determine presence of debris entrained within the gas flow."

The patent was filed on April 8, 2024, under Application No. 18/629,412.
