ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,351,531, issued on July 8, was assigned to RTX Corp. (Farmington, Conn.).
"Protective coating for ceramic matrix composites" was invented by Imelda P. Smyth (North Palm Beach, Fla.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An article has a substrate and a layer atop the substrate. The layer has: a matrix comprising at least one of hafnium silicate (HfSiO4) and ytterbium disilicate (Yb2Si2O7); and barium magnesium alumino silicate (BMAS)."
The patent was filed on Sept. 16, 2021, under Application No. 17/476,627.
