ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,546,010, issued on Feb. 10, was assigned to RTX Corp. (Farmington, Conn.).

"Turbine engine shaft coating" was invented by Lei Chen (South Windsor, Conn.) and Poulomi Sannigrahi (Glastonbury, Conn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A coated steel substrate has a steel substrate having a surface. A coating layer is atop the surface. The coating layer includes: aluminum activated by indium; and a ceramic binder. The coating also may comprise of multiple layers with different properties to facilitate the galvanic protection capability."

The patent was filed on Dec. 27, 2022, under Application No. 18/089,081.
