ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,385,402, issued on Aug. 12, was assigned to RTX Corp. (Farmington, Conn.).
"CMC airfoil with cooling passage formed in fiber plies" was invented by Peter Wilkins (Glastonbury, Conn.), Jonas Banhos (West Hartford, Conn.), Russell Kim (Temecula, Calif.) and James T. Roach (Vernon, Conn.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An airfoil includes a platform and an airfoil section that are formed of a ceramic matrix composite that includes core fiber plies, skin fiber plies, platform fiber plies, and a cooling passage that extends through selected ones of the plies to provide a cooling circuit through the airfoil section and into the platform."
