US Patent Issued to RTX BBN TECHNOLOGIES on Sept. 30 for "System and method of separating oxygen from a body of water" (Massachusetts, Rhode Island Inventors)

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,428,328, issued on Sept. 30, was assigned to RTX BBN TECHNOLOGIES INC. (Cambridge, Mass.).

"System and method of separating oxygen from a body of water" was invented by Benjamin Jacob Rosenthal (Newport, R.I.), Miles Rogers (Watertown, Mass.) and Helen Scott (Watertown, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of separating oxygen from a body of water includes providing a colony of denitrifying bacteria submerged in the body of water. The colony of denitrifying bacteria can be used to convert at least a portion of nitrogen oxides present in the body of water to nitrogen gas.
