ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,485,559, issued on Dec. 2, was assigned to ROLLS-ROYCE PLC (London).

"Sensing in continuum robots" was invented by Xin Dong (Nottingham, Great Britain), Abdelkhalick Mohammad (Nottingham, Great Britain), James Kell (Nottingham, Great Britain), Dragos A Axinte (Nottingham, Great Britain) and Yihua Fang (Nottingham, Great Britain).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A sensing system for a continuum arm robot, the sensing system comprising at least one camera ring system mounted to the continuum robot, the camera ring system having at least two forward-facing cameras that face along the axis of the robot towards the tip."
