ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- United States Patent no. 12,359,722, issued on July 15, was assigned to Rivian IP Holdings LLC (Irvine, Calif.).

"Low profile outer belt seal with improved retention" was invented by Benjamin Mumma (Huntington Woods, Mich.), Julio Cesar Maldonado Cruz (Canton, Mich.), Maria Guadalupe Gamez Lopez (Canton, Mich.) and Daniel Thiel (Wadern, Germany).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Systems and methods are presented herein for providing a low-profile outer belt seal that has features enabling high levels of retention to a vehicle door assembly.
