According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A magnetic button having a first button member incorporating a magnet and a second button member incorporating a body made of ferromagnetic material. The first button member and the second button member are magnetically couplable and uncouplable by moving towards and away from each other, respectively, in a coupling direction.
