ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 31 -- United States Patent no. 12,507,725, issued on Dec. 30, was assigned to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. (Winston-Salem, N.C.).

"Translucent smokeless tobacco product" was invented by Darrell Holton Jr. (Clemmons, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The invention provides a smokeless tobacco product comprising a tobacco extract. In some embodiments, the smokeless tobacco product is translucent. The invention further provides methods for making and using the smokeless tobacco product. In certain embodiments, the smokeless tobacco product comprises isomalt, maltitol syrup, and a translucent tobacco extract prepared by ultrafiltration."
