ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,415,001, issued on Sept. 16, was assigned to President and Fellows of Harvard College (Cambridge, Mass.).

"RNA-guided systems for in vivo gene editing" was invented by Amy J. Wagers (Cambridge, Mass.), Mohammadsharif Tabebordbar (Cambridge, Mass.), Wei Leong Chew (Boston) and George M. Church (Brookline, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Methods of editing target nucleic acids are provided using a guide RNA and a Cas9 protein to excise exons in a target gene and where the edited gene is expressed to produce a truncated polypeptide."

The patent was filed on Dec. 23, 2022, under Application No. 18/145,996.
