ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 17 -- United States Patent no. 12,310,833, issued on May 27, was assigned to POLY-MED INC. (Anderson, S.C.).

"Medical implants having managed biodegradation" was invented by Michael Scott Taylor (Anderson, S.C.), Jennifer Cartledge (Seneca, S.C.) and Kenneth David Gray Jr. (Clemson, S.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Medical implants that include a containment layer surrounding, or surrounded by, a biodegradable medical device provide the benefit that pieces formed during degradation of the medical device are held within a constrained place and thus do not causes injury to a hosts."

The patent was filed on Oct. 8, 2022, under Application No. 17/962,491.
