ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,296,791, issued on May 13, was assigned to Polaris Industries Inc. (Medina, Minn.).

"All-terrain vehicle" was invented by William B. Rodriguez (Roseau, Minn.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An all-terrain vehicle includes a frame, a plurality of ground-engaging members for supporting the frame, an outer body supported by the frame, and a cargo rack pivotably coupled to the outer body. The cargo rack is moveably between a closed position and an opened position and includes a hinge assembly comprising hinge leaves and a removable hinge pin."
