ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 11 -- United States Patent no. 12,547,148, issued on Feb. 10, was assigned to Peridot Print LLC (Palo Alto, Calif.).
"Displacement maps" was invented by Juan Carlos Catana Salazar (San Diego), Sergio Gonzalez Martin (Sant Cugat del Valles, Spain) and Jun Zeng (Palo Alto, Calif.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Examples of methods for determining displacement maps are described herein. In some examples of the methods, a method includes determining a displacement map for a three-dimensional (3D) object model based on a compensated point cloud. In some examples, the method includes assembling the displacement map on the 3D object model for 3D manufacturing."
