ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 6 -- United States Patent no. 12,381,902, issued on Aug. 5, was assigned to Palo Alto Networks Inc. (Santa Clara, Calif.).

"Pattern match-based detection in IOT security" was invented by Jun Du (Cupertino, Calif.), Mei Wang (Saratoga, Calif.), Hector Daniel Regalado (Santa Clara, Calif.) and Jianhong Xia (Santa Clara, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Techniques for providing Internet of Things (IoT) security are disclosed. An applicable system includes profiling IoT devices to limit the number of network signatures applicable to the IoT devices and performing pattern matching using a pattern that is appropriate for the profile of a given IoT device."
