ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,370,169, issued on July 29, was assigned to Oregon State University (Corvallis, Ore.).

"Small molecule Bcl-2 functional converters as cancer therapeutics" was invented by Siva K. Kolluri (Corvallis, Ore.), Prasad R. Kopparapu (Houston) and Martin Pearce (Independence, Ore.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Methods for inducing growth inhibition or apoptosis of Bcl-2-expressing cells and treatments of Bcl-2 expressing cancers are provided. Additionally, assays for agents that can induce apoptosis of Bcl-2 expressing cells are disclosed."

The patent was filed on Aug. 19, 2022, under Application No. 17/821,146.
