ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,495,074, issued on Dec. 9, was assigned to Oracle International Corp. (Redwood Shores, Calif.).

"Honeypots for infrastructure-as-a-service security" was invented by Christopher James Ries (Saratoga, Calif.), Nikkolas Anthony Lavorato (Toronto), Kevin Raymond Jr. (Bedford, N.H.), Philip Nathan Andrews III (New Ipswich, N.H.) and Christa Agnes Johnson Scura (Contoocook, N.H.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Techniques for using honeypots to lure attackers and gather data about attackers and attack patterns on Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) instances. The gathered data may then be analyzed and used to proactively prevent such attacks."
