ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,220,711, issued on Feb. 11, was assigned to Omnis Mineral Technologies LLC (Santa Barbara, Calif.).

"Flotation separation of fine coal particles from ash-forming particles" was invented by James S. Swensen (Santa Barbara, Calif.), Simon K. Hodson (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Jonathan K. Hodson (Santa Barbara, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Coal fines are processed by flotation separation to separate coal particles from ash-forming mineral content particles.
