ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,404,236, issued on Sept. 2, was assigned to Ohio State Innovation Foundation (Columbus, Ohio).

"Non-peptidic cell-penetrating motifs" was invented by Dehua Pei (Columbus, Ohio), George Appiah Kubi (Columbus, Ohio) and Ziqing Qian (Wellesley, Mass.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed are compounds that can penetrate the mitochondrial membrane and that are able to deliver cargo (e.g., therapeutic agents) specifically to the mitochondria."

The patent was filed on Oct. 31, 2023, under Application No. 18/498,102.
