ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,332,198, issued on June 17, was assigned to Ohio State Innovation Foundation (Columbus, Ohio).
"Metabolite based diagnostics for periprosthetic joint infection" was invented by Paul Stoodley (Columbus, Ohio), Rafael Bruschweiler (Columbus, Ohio) and Abigail Leggett (Columbus, Ohio).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure relates to methods of identifying and detecting metabolites in joint fluid to treat and/or prevent a joint infection. The present disclosure also relates to method of preventing a bacterial biofilm accumulation and treating a joint infection using NMR-based metabolomics."
