ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,227,853, issued on Feb. 18, was assigned to Oerlikon Metco (US) Inc. (Westbury, N.Y.).

"Thermal spray iron-based alloys for coating engine cylinder bores" was invented by Cameron Eibl (Encinitas, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Disclosed herein are embodiments of iron-based alloys. The alloys can be powders used as a feedstock for plasma or thermal spray processes. In some embodiments, the alloys can have low or no chromium, provided improvements from an environmental and worker health perspective. In some embodiments, the powder can have a generally large particle size."
