"Bandgap reference circuit" was invented by Thierry Michel Alain Sicard (Auzeville Tolosane, France).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A bandgap voltage reference circuit comprises a plurality of delta base-emitter voltage (triangleVbe) cells extending between first and second voltage rails in a serial arrangement.
