ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 19 -- United States Patent no. 12,252,811, issued on March 18, was assigned to NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY (Evanston, Ill.).

"Method for controlled growth of nanocrystals" was invented by Chad A. Mirkin (Wilmette, Ill.), Yuanwei Li (Evanston, Ill.), Haixin Lin (Evanston, Ill.) and Wenjie Zhou (Evanston, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A method of site-selective growth of a nanocrystal from an anisotropic seed can include immersing an anisotropic seed functionalized with a ligand in a growth solution having a nanocrystal precursor, a complexing agent, and a reducing agent to form a growth solution, wherein an amount of the reducing agent and/or any amount of the complexi...
