ALEXANDRIA, Va., April 2 -- United States Patent no. 12,264,344, issued on April 1, was assigned to Northwestern University (Evanston, Ill.).

"Protein/oligonucleotide core-shell nanoparticle therapeutics" was invented by Chad A. Mirkin (Wilmette, Ill.) and Jeffrey D. Brodin (Evanston, Ill.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure is directed to core-shell nanoparticles, compositions comprising core-shell nanoparticles, and methods of their use."

The patent was filed on Aug. 19, 2015, under Application No. 15/502,955.
