ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. PP36,671, issued on May 13, was assigned to North Carolina State University (Raleigh, N.C.).

"Ilex plant named 'NCIC1'" was invented by Thomas Green Ranney (Arden, N.C.), Irene Palmer (Arden, N.C.), Nathan Lynch (Arden, N.C.) and Andra Windorf Nus (Arden, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct cultivar of Ilex plant named 'NCIC1' is disclosed, characterized by its compact, upright, rounded growth habit, and persistent, vivid yellow foliage. The new variety is an Ilex, normally produced as an outdoor garden or container plant."

The patent was filed on June 17, 2024, under Application No. 18/745,794.
