ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. PP36,667, issued on May 13, was assigned to North Carolina State University (Raleigh, N.C.).

"Deutzia plant named 'NCDX3'" was invented by Thomas Green Ranney (Arden, N.C.), Irene Palmer (Arden, N.C.), Nathan Lynch (Arden, N.C.) and Andra Windorf Nus (Arden, N.C.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct cultivar of Deutzia plant named 'NCDX3' is described, characterized by abundant, dark pink flowers buds and deep pink striped flowers. Plants have low-growing, compact habits. The new variety is a Deutzia, typically used as an ornamental garden or landscape plant."
