ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 3 -- United States Patent no. PP36,788, issued on July 1, was assigned to North Carolina State University (Raleigh, N.C.).
"Hydrangea plant named 'SMNHAGOV'" was invented by Megan M. Mathey (Holland, Mich.).
According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A new and distinct cultivar of Hydrangea plant named 'SMNHAGOV' is disclosed, characterized by large, abundant mophead inflorescences. Sepals open pale white-green, then mature to pure white. Stems are strong and thick, supporting large flower panicles. The new variety is a Hydrangea, typically produced as an outdoor ornamental plant."
The patent was filed on Dec. 2, 2024, under Application No. 18/964,952.
