ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 12 -- United States Patent no. 12,295,750, issued on May 13, was assigned to Nokia Technologies Oy (Espoo, Finland).

"Skin lifting for photoplethysmography" was invented by Lea Myyrylainen (Espoo, Finland) and Helena Pohjonen (Espoo, Finland).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An apparatus, method and computer program are provided. The apparatus includes a light source; a light sensor configured to sense light signals emitted by the light source; and an actuator configured to lift a surface of skin tissue in order to create an optical path through the skin tissue from the light source to the light sensor, for transmissive photoplethysmography."
