ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 8 -- United States Patent no. 12,434,190, issued on Oct. 7, was assigned to Nippon Shokubai Co. Ltd. (Osaka, Japan) and Trevi Systems Inc. (Rohnert Park, Calif.).

"Draw solute, draw solution, and water treatment device" was invented by Hiroki Tokushima (Suita, Japan), Akitoshi Matono (Suita, Japan) and John Webley (Rohnert Park, Calif.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A draw solute for the forward osmosis membrane process comprises a random copolymer obtainable by random addition of a monomer containing ethylene oxide and butylene oxide to a compound having one or more hydroxyl groups."

The patent was filed on April 7, 2021, under Application No. 17/916,931.
