ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 3 -- United States Patent no. 12,542,247, issued on Feb. 3, was assigned to Nippon Chemi-Con Corp. (Tokyo).

"Electrical double layer capacitor" was invented by Shun Koikawa (Osaka, Japan), Satoshi Kubota (Tokyo) and Shuichi Ishimoto (Tokyo).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "The present disclosure provides an electric double layer capacitor with an electrolyte layer which suppresses leakage current and has high ion conductivity. The electric double layer capacitor includes a pair of electrode bodies and an electrolyte layer. The electrode bodies have polarizable electrodes. The electrolyte layer includes ionic liquid plastic crystals."
