ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,369,673, issued on July 29, was assigned to NIKE Inc. (Beaverton, Ore.).

"Printing over stitching" was invented by Kassio Figur (Beaverton, Ore.), Bruce J. Kilgore (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Christina M. Wood (Beaverton, Ore.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Stitching is applied to a shoe or shoe component and then printed. The stitching may be formed from a continuous thread. After printing, a portion of the continuous thread may have a different color or appearance from other portion(s) of the continuous thread."

The patent was filed on Jan. 8, 2024, under Application No. 18/406,703.
