ALEXANDRIA, Va., Dec. 31 -- United States Patent no. 12,512,713, issued on Dec. 30, was assigned to Nidec Motor Corp. (St. Louis).

"Motor magnetic composite encoder" was invented by Liming Zhou (Chesterfield, Mo.), Mark E. Carrier (Wildwood, Mo.) and Christopher D. Schock (Lake Saint Louis, Mo.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An electric motor including a rotor defining an axis of rotation and an encoder. The encoder includes a magnetic composite part attached to the rotor, and a magnetic flux sensor positioned to detect magnetic flux resulting from movement of the magnetic composite part with rotation of the rotor."

The patent was filed on Oct. 22, 2021, under Application No. 17/451,862.
