ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 28 -- United States Patent no. 12,456,818, issued on Oct. 28, was assigned to NEC Corp. (Tokyo).

"Antenna and beam forming method" was invented by Koya Takata (Tokyo), Kenji Wakafuji (Tokyo) and Fujio Okumura (Kanagawa, Japan).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "To provide an antenna capable of accelerating beamforming. The antenna includes a metasurface with an opening part that receives electromagnetic waves and a MEMS mechanism configured to change a shape of the opening part by operating a moveable member with respect to the opening part of the metasurface."
