ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 30 -- United States Patent no. 12,372,679, issued on July 29, was assigned to NEC Corp. (Tokyo).

"Utility pole localization by distributed fiber sensing of aerial fiber cable" was invented by Yue Tian (Princeton, N.J.), Shaobo Han (Princeton, N.J.), Sarper Ozharar (Princeton, N.J.), Yangmin Ding (East Brunswick, N.J.) and You Lu (Blacksburg, Va.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "Aspects of the present disclosure describe the localization of a utility pole by distributed fiber sensing of aerial fiber cable suspended from the utility pole."

The patent was filed on Oct. 18, 2021, under Application No. 17/504,365.
