ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 9 -- United States Patent no. 12,286,853, issued on April 29, was assigned to Nabors Drilling Technologies USA Inc. (Houston).

"Instrumented sub" was invented by Sergei Knizhnik (Exton, Pa.), Scott Boone (Houston), Christopher Conrad (Glen Mills, Pa.), Maciej Panek (West Chester, Pa.) and Edward J. Harris III (Pottstown, Pa.).

According to the abstract* released by the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "A system including an instrumented sub for supporting subterranean operations, the instrumented sub can include an upper and lower portion with a flow passage extending therethrough, and a valve that selectively permits or restricts fluid flow through the flow passage, and a rotary interface coupled to the upper portion...
